Birthday Party at Tele Pizza

Birthday Party at Tele Pizza

Today we had Levi’s 5th birthday party at Tele Pizza. Lots of his friends and teachers showed up. We consumed mass quantities of pizza and cake. An amusing thing happened. Roberta bought candles for Levi’s cake. She did not realize that they were trick candles. Every time Levi blew them out they’d burst into flame again. Eventually we had every kid in the place trying to blow them out at the same...

School Christmas Pageant

School Christmas Pageant

Levi’s school had a Christmas pageant tonight at Centro Bellas Artes, a sculpture art gallery and workshop that, I didn’t know until tonight, rents out a large stage for events. The event was pretty awesome. Tons of kids singing their hearts out while not really singing at all, but loving every minute of it. One thing school pageants have here that school pageants in America lack is a full bar tended by the school founder’s husband. Not only did the kids have a great time, the parents did too! After the pageant we ate at Monna Lisa Pizza. Below is a gallery of some pics of the venue, the event, and dinner at Monna Lisa. Below the gallery is a short...

First Gig in Granada at Imagine Restaurant and Bar

First Gig in Granada at Imagine Restaurant and Bar

I finally played my first gig here in Granada at a great little restaurant and bar called Imagine, after the classic John Lennon song. Several months ago I emailed the owner, Kevin, out of the blue asking if he had any slots open. I figured he was probably booked solid and would tell me he could fit me in sometime in the next few months, during which time I could practice for the show. I was wrong. He responded asking if I could play that very Friday night from night from 8pm – 11pm! I was in no way prepared for something that soon since I had done no serious practice since arriving here in August. I explained this and declined, promising that I would be in touch again in a few weeks, after I’d had time to practice. About a week later he emailed me asking if I was ready and could play that coming Friday. I wasn’t ready, but I didn’t want to decline the chance again,...

Dia de Los Muertos Party

Dia de Los Muertos Party

After a short stop at our friends Karina and Shane’s newly opened tapas bar, Bocadillos, we headed over to a Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) party at El Rodeo. We were invited by, Valeria, the owner of Hospedaje Valeria which is next door to us. It was a pretty thrilling experience. We had gone out Halloween night and not much was going on. There were a few people in costume walking around, but that was about it. Apprently they save their partying up for Day of the Dead here in Granada because last night the place was loud, explosive, and a full-on party. Unfortunately, we had to leave just as things really started to hop, because Levi got scared out of his 4-year-old mind and wanted to go home. It was, to say the least, quite a bit of sensory overload for the kid. I did manage to snap a few...
