Birthday Party at Tele Pizza

Birthday Party at Tele Pizza

Today we had Levi’s 5th birthday party at Tele Pizza. Lots of his friends and teachers showed up. We consumed mass quantities of pizza and cake. An amusing thing happened. Roberta bought candles for Levi’s cake. She did not realize that they were trick candles. Every time Levi blew them out they’d burst into flame again. Eventually we had every kid in the place trying to blow them out at the same...

School Christmas Pageant

School Christmas Pageant

Levi’s school had a Christmas pageant tonight at Centro Bellas Artes, a sculpture art gallery and workshop that, I didn’t know until tonight, rents out a large stage for events. The event was pretty awesome. Tons of kids singing their hearts out while not really singing at all, but loving every minute of it. One thing school pageants have here that school pageants in America lack is a full bar tended by the school founder’s husband. Not only did the kids have a great time, the parents did too! After the pageant we ate at Monna Lisa Pizza. Below is a gallery of some pics of the venue, the event, and dinner at Monna Lisa. Below the gallery is a short...

We Made Shelves

We Made Shelves

If you’ve been reading this blog for a while you’re already quite aware that we are awesome at making things. For instance, the awesome BBQ grill we made. We’ve been seriously needing more surface area around here, but being in a rental and trying to save money, we haven’t really wanted to invest in real furniture. Although, there are some SERIOUSLY AWESOME furniture shops off the highway between Granada and Managua. When we build or buy a house we’ll certainly pick up furniture along that highway. In the mean time…we made some damn shelves! For the design we decided to go with the timeless, classic look of College Sophomore Chic incorporating cinder blocks and wooden planks. It’s reminiscent of a college sophomore who’s just moved into his first apartment and realized “Oh shit, I don’t have anything to put my shit on!” which is usually shortly followed by the realization of “Oh...

We Hung Out With the Neighbors

We Hung Out With the Neighbors

We’ve been in this current house for over a month now, and while we’ve met our neighbors in passing, we’ve never really hung out with them until last night. We sat out on the sidewalk in front of our houses until well after midnight drinking and talking and generally having a good time. He is a Costa Rican artist and tour guide entrepreneur and she is an American yoga instructor at Pure Spa here in Granada. It is pretty weird that even after hanging out for hours last night and having a great time, I still have no idea what their names are. Levi really hit it off with the guy. In fact, they’ve sort of been buds for a while. Levi always grabs his attention when he’s walking past our gate and they end up high-fiving and trading fist bumps. He’s a very cool dude, indeed, I really found out last night. The picture below is of him explaining to Levi the benefits of recycling the juice box...
